Welcome to this work in progress. It is a small attempt to salvage the wreckage of my recent past. The best I can define it is an attempt to extract myself from Western Civilization. It all started with a red pill Jerry Maguire moment at the Sundance Film Festival. I took a turn at the doorstep to middle age and have endeavored to live a life of meaning and purpose. It seemed like a brilliant idea at the time but after 2008, two wildfires and a global pandemic the bitter sweet validation is a small comfort. In the process I traded my family’s comfort and economic well being for what can best be described as durable values. For this I am only slightly regretful. Whatever way I spin it weaning off of the assumptions we’ve grown accustomed to in this culture (if you can call it that) is inevitable and imminent. If we can’t sustain our current lifestyle that lifestyle must change. But change, while often uncomfortable, is usually necessary and never inherently bad. This is a process. I continue to learn. Come on in the water is actually fine.
